Say Russ Made Deal On Viet

CHICAGO (AP) --Party chief Leonid Brezhnev promised President Nixon during his trip to Russia that he would recommend North Vietnam accept a cease-fire and return U.S. prisoners of war, a Chicago Sun-Times columnist said Sunday.

At the Florida White House, however, a spokesman said the administration stood on previous statements that no deals on Vietnam had been made at the Moscow summit.

Quoting unnamed sources in Washington, columnist Irv Kupcinet said fulfillment of the promise "would give North Vietnam the land it now controls in northern South Vietnam and pave the way for the President to withdraw all troops within his promised four months."

Kupcinet continued, "This, our sources say, could fall on receptive ears in North Vietnam, which has been taking a beating from pinpoint bombing and suffering from lack of supplies because of the mining of the harbors."
