Draft-Dodgers' Amnesty Opposed

NEW YORK (UPI) --Seventy-nine per cent of the more than 38,000 persons who responded to a television poll released Friday night were against some sort of amnesty for men who avoided the draft by leaving the country.

WNEW-TV said four questions regarding amnesty were asked in the poll. The questions were published in paid ads in nine newspapers in New York City, New Jersey and Connecticut last week and responses were mailed to the Metromedia station.

On the question "Should some sort of amnesty be granted to those who avoided the draft by leaving the country?" 8,160 voted yes while 29,925 said no.

On the second question, "Should amnesty be granted to deserters as well?" 81 per cent or 30,788 voted no while 19 per cent or 7,134 voted yes.

The third question, "Should blanket amnesty be granted?" drew 31,995 no votes or 83 per cent and 6,377 yes votes or 17 per cent.

On the last question, "Should a special commission be established to rule on individual cases?" 81 per cent or 30,602 voted no while 19 per cent or 7,063 voted yes.
