Kennedy: Nixon Has Failed
WASHINGTON (AP) --Sen. Edward M. Kennedy lambasted President Nixon's record on the Vietnam war, the economy and other issues Friday -but said he has no plans to vie for the Democratic presidential nomination.
"We want a president who'll be working with us, not against us," the Massachusetts senator told a cheering audience of more than 1,000 steel workers.
"We want a president who represents all the people, not just the chairman of the board," he added. His speech was to a health care conference of the AFL-CIO United Steelworkers.
Kennedy said Nixon had failed on his pledge to end the Vietnam war, failed to revive the nation's economy and failed to sponsor social legislation on labor, health and education.
On the economy, he said "The administration is far more serious about controlling wages than it is about controlling prices."
